Johnny Clegg is one of my favorite musicians of all time. I had the privilege to see him in concert twice. One in Tempe Arizona in the early 90’s. It was an outdoor concert and I had heard his latest album on a local radio station. He was simply amazing live. Amazing. He’s dancing around and signing like I’ve never seen before. I noticed when his backup dancers looked at him with awe when he did a particularly nimble dance move.

His early bands were routinely broken up about 20% of the time by South African police for being mixed races. He is white and his band mates were black. He thought it was wrong to have the racist policy. He was arrested many times.

Johnny Clegg forever changed what type of music I enjoyed and how to stand up for what is right in the modern world.

That concert forever changed me. I got into World Music more. Learned more about him and how he stood up for doing the right thing.

Many years later in 2016 I got to see him in concert again in San Diego. I was so blown away of how good so many years later you were in concert.

I just found out about your passing today due to a seizure I’ve been offline for nearly a year and the news impacted me greatly.

I’m so grateful I get to listen to your music. I’m so grateful to hear how kind you were and what a difference you made in the world. I’ll be listening to your music in tribute today and always. RIP Johnny.

I recommend this concert in Paris to see him perform.
